DAY 01 : ARRIVAL LEH
Upon arrival at Leh airport, meet our representative, transfer to hotel. We recommend you complete relax for the rest of the day to enable yourselves to acclimatize at the high altitude. It is the process of the body in adjusting to the decreased availability of oxygen at such elevations. In the late afternoon drive to the city centre for an orientation walk in the market. Overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 02 : LEH
After having breakfast proceed for a full day sightseeing to Thiksey monastery, Hemis monastery and Shey palace. Firstly visit Thiksey monastery which is referred to as ‘Mini Potala’ of India. The monastery is settled on the hill top and is home to around 120 monks. Thiksey is a twelve storied monastery with its amazing and iconic architecture, it boasts of 10 shrines and an assembly hall. The monastery houses many stuffs of Buddhist art such as swords, stupas, statues, wall paintings and thangkas (a painting on cotton or silk, depicting Buddhist deity). In-addition, there is also a nunnery in the monastery complex. After that visit Hemis monastery, situated on a green hill and surrounded by spectacular mountains. It is the largest and most popular monastery in Ladakh. Hemis monastery is a rich treasure house of cultural riches of Ladakh. There is the Hemis museum with various Buddhist temples with daily prayers by monks, cultural artifacts from the past, several gilded statues of various dieties. On the way back visit Shey Palace. The Shey Palace is built up in a very beautiful way and is extended up to 3 floors. The name Shey if translated into Ladakhi means mirror and it is known as the reflection of the palace. Return and overnight stay at hotel.
DAY 03 : LEH – SPITUK – ALCHI – ULEYTOKPO ( 80 KM, 3 HOURS )
After having breakfast leave for Uleytokpo camping, it is a scenic and ultimate destination blessed with astonishing beauty. It is a perfect place for spending the vacations in a peace-loving and serene area. En route visit Spituk monastery, built during the eleventh century, also known as Pethup Gompa. This monastery is home to 100 monks and a giant statue of goddess Kali, which is shown during the yearly Spituk festival. Continue drive to visit Alchi monastery. This monastery is actually a complex of temples consisting of 4 separate portions that has structures built at different times. The walls of this monastery are adorned with paintings depicting the details of Hindu kings as well as the teaching of Buddhism. There is also a huge Buddha statue in the complex, a famous tourist attraction. By the lunch time, you will reach Uletokpo. Overnight stay in camp.
DAY 04 : ULETOKPO – LAMAYURU – LEH ( 180 KM, 6 HOURS)
In the morning leave for Lamayuru monastery via Khaltsi. The monastery is located in the taluk of Khalsi, district of Leh. From here another 22 Km drive will take you to Lamayuru which is the oldest and one of the largest monasteries. The monastery is acclaimed for its murals, collection of thangkas, rich wall paintings, scriptures and statues of different forms of Buddha and distinct deities. In the afternoon return back for overnight stay at hotel.
Day 05: DEPARTURE
In the morning transfer to Leh airport to catch flight for onward destination.
